MISSION / VISION
Fat Girl Food Squad grew out of something Ama and Yuli had both been feeling and likely struggling with their whole careers as bloggers. Both care about people. Care about people eating good food, about them feeling good inside their bodies, mentally and physically. The girls started tagging things #fatgirlfoodsquad as a joke a year ago, and one day in April they simply sat down and registered a domain. In it’s short history FGFS has grown from just an extension of the food writing and photography the girls already do for other outlets and into it’s own fully formed site.
We are always looking for writers who have an irreverent style and natural flow. While we tackle some serious and deep issues at times, we want the content to be fresh and have soul. Topics that are fair game: All Things Food (obvy.), Fashion, Body Positivity, How-To’s & DIY Tutorials. You name it! FGFS is constantly evolving.
We’re not just a girl gang, there’s a Fat Girl living in everyone. Underweight, overweight, male, female. HUMANS!
We ask that regular contributors and those who are Squad Leaders (more on what that means below) contribute at least one post per month. If you’re into that, give us a shout!
What does this mean? We’re not totally sure, but you can help us figure it out. Basically, we need you to be the eyes and the ears on the ground in your city. Maybe you’re a city none of us in Toronto has been to. We trust you to know what’s good, what’s fresh, what’s tasty and rad. You’ll have the opportunity to talk about some issues close to home and your heart, but also share with the world all the good things going on.
During you time as Squad Leader you might want to throw an event under the name Fat Girl Food Squad. That’s something you can do! Bring on new writers and photographers. Make people fans, and form a girl gang. You’ll do all the things we do. Sounds like a lot of responsibility, which it is, but it’s not a lot of work.
If you want to be a Squad Leader let us know!
